After the conclusion of the second world war for a long time it was erstwhile Soviet Union which headed the communist bloc in the world . Emergence of leaders like Mao Tse Tung and Chou en Lai in China after the red revolution of China in 1949, however, changed the scene altogether. Under the astute leadership of these two leaders China left Moscow far behind in every field of life. After the demise of Lenin, Kremlin couldn’t get a leader of his stature with the result that the mighty Soviet empire fell like a house of nine cards one after the other.
Meanwhile China progressed by leaps and bounds. Though in the form of Putin Russia has found a leader who is trying to salvage the lost clout of Moscow but it would be premature to say whether or not he would be able to restore the lost position of Russia in the comity of world nations . Third world countries now look towards Beijing for guidance in various fields of life rather than to Moscow.

In case Russia jumped into the present war between America and Iran possibility of eruption of third world war cannot be ruled out altogether. China, is the last hope of the peace loving people of the world who believe that if Beijing puts its foot down and through the UN brings the warring parties to the negotiating table the world can be saved from the menace of nuclear show down.
