The farewell ceremony in the apex court on last Friday held for the outgoing CJP revealed the extent of polarization in the apex court when a number of judges who were supposed to attend it as per tradition didn’t show up which is unfortunate to say the least.
The new CJP has very rightly underscored the need for improving the system of dispensation of justice in the far flung districts of the country.
There is no gainsaying the fact that this country has produced judges of impeccable financial and moral integrity like Sir Abdul Rashid, Cornelius٫Constantibe ,Dorab Patel, Allah Baksh and Bhagwan Das ,to mention a few who have been epitome of honesty, fair play, neutrality and who had all the good qualities of head and heart. They should be role model before all the current judicial officers of the country.
Undoubtedly the major task before the new CJP would be to take effective steps for finishing once and for all the polarization of the apex court and to ensure that code of ethics meant for judges of the country is implemented in letter and spirit by the judges of all echelons of the judiciary.
Efforts would be needed to ensure that all cases whether they are on the criminal ,civil or revenue sides are decided by the courts expeditiously. There is no doubt that the new CJP possess all the qualities to perform the tasks referred to above as his track record as a judge has been excellent and inspires confidence.
