WNAM REPORT: Addressing the meeting of the Jogorku Kenesh on Wednesday, Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers-Head of the Presidential Administration Akylbek Zhaparov spoke about the work done and to be done in the field of energy, as per reports.
He noted that in 2024, small HPPs with a capacity of 48.3 MW were commissioned, the CASA-1000 project was completed, as well as projects are continued for the construction of solar and wind power plants and reconstruction of the Toktogul HPP.
“Small HPPs have been put into operation: Bala-Saruu, Ysyk-Ata-1, Kainama, Kok-Art, Isfayram-1, Kurak-Tektir and others. Currently, 33 small HPPs with a total capacity of 121.5 MW are operating in the country. By the end of the year, 6 more small HPPs will be commissioned. Reconstruction of Toktogul HPP by the end of 2025 will increase the capacity by additional 240 MW. In addition, the capacity of Kambar-Ata HPP-2 will be increased by 120 MW by 2028, and the capacity of Uch-Korgon HPP, which is now 180 MW, will increase to 216 MW (+36) by 2027”, the chairman of the Cabinet said.
He also stressed that the state of Bishkek CHPP this year once again showed the need for its modernization.
Speaking about Kambarata HPP-1, Akylbek Zhaparov noted that this is not just a new plant, it is a way to energy independence, development of the economy and opening new opportunities for the people.
“The Kambarata HPP-1 construction project is supported by the World Bank. Calculations show that the cost of the project will be lower than the expected amount. This HPP will be an important tool for effective water management in Central Asia under the conditions of expected future ecological water crises. Dear deputies, I would like to note: the fact that we found initial funds for the China-Kyrgyzstan-Uzbekistan railroad and the Kambarata HPP and were able to allocate billions for the feasibility study proves to the world financial institutions and other countries that Kyrgyzstan is able to finance large projects and has the will to implement them. Therefore, we have partners for the construction of Kambarata HPP-1,” the head of the Kyrgyz Cabinet concluded.
