WNAM MONITORING0: Foreign Minister of Turkmenistan Rashid Meredov met in Ashgabat on Friday with Biljana Milosevic, head of the Regional Representation of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) in Central Asia. The two sides discussed preparations for events in 2025, including organizing courses and lectures on international humanitarian law for students at Turkmen universities.

They paid special attention to strengthening cooperation with the National Society of Red Crescent of Turkmenistan, as reported by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan.

The discussions also covered the ICRC’s activities in the region, with a particular focus on Turkmenistan, as well as enhancing the capacity of national ICRC partners in the field of international humanitarian law.

On the same day, Minister Rashid Meredov met with Natalia German, Executive Director of the Counter-Terrorism Committee of the UN Security Council. During the meeting, they reviewed preliminary results from the delegation’s visit, which took place from December 9 to 13. The main topic of discussion focused on assessing Turkmenistan’s implementation of UN Security Council resolutions related to combating terrorism. The visit aimed to analyze the progress made since the last visit in 2017 and evaluate the measures taken to implement previously stated recommendations.

Minister Meredov reaffirmed Turkmenistan’s commitment to international obligations in the fight against terrorism and expressed readiness to continue constructive cooperation with the UN to enhance the effectiveness of efforts in this area. A significant aspect of the meeting involved discussing Turkmenistan’s contribution to strengthening regional security and further developing cooperation within international efforts to combat terrorism.

The two sides also identified key areas for further work, including improving mechanisms for counter-terrorism and implementing international norms and standards in this field. Turkmenistan continues to actively participate in the international coalition against terrorism, and its security efforts receive high recognition on the global stage.
