WNAM MONITORING: Azerbaijani student Farid Safarli, who was arrested in Iran, has been released and is now in Azerbaijan, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the State Security Service of Azerbaijan said in a joint statement.
“On the instruction of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Azerbaijani citizen Farid Gabil oglu Safarli, who was detained in the Islamic Republic of Iran in 2023, was transferred to Azerbaijan on January 18 of this year within the framework of international legal cooperation and mutual procedures. He is already in Azerbaijan,” the statement says.
The statement notes that after undergoing a medical examination, Safarli reunited with his family.
The joint statement says that the two departments will continue to take necessary measures to protect the rights and interests of Azerbaijani citizens abroad.
Azerbaijani citizen Farid Safarli, the student of the University of Jena in Germany, traveled to Iran on February 20, 2023. Contact with him was lost on March 4. Later, information about his arrest was circulated.
