WNAM MONITORING: The President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev received a Japanese delegation led by the President of the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) Akihiko Tanaka.
Discussions focused on expanding practical cooperation and advancing joint initiatives with this leading international financial institution.
The Leader of Uzbekistan expressed satisfaction that the visit of the JICA head marks a new stage in economic and financial-technical collaboration. He emphasized the agency’s role as a strategic partner in supporting reforms for building New Uzbekistan.
The joint project portfolio in energy, transport, agriculture, water management, healthcare, education, and other sectors exceeds $8 billion. A three-year cooperation program was adopted last year.
The Uzbekistan – Japan Center for Human Development and the Youth Innovation Center are operating successfully. More than 2,500 Uzbek specialists have completed training and internships in Japan through JICA programs. Japanese volunteers contribute to key social and humanitarian projects in Uzbekistan.
Additionally, an agreement was signed the previous day for the construction and equipment of the Republican Specialized Scientific and Practical Medical Center for Neurology and Stroke in Tashkent.
The President of Uzbekistan expressed support for expanding JICA’s activities in the country.
The discussion highlighted the importance of private sector projects, the creation of a special economic zone for Japanese investors, the establishment of a Japanese university, and partnerships in vocational education.
An agreement was reached to introduce new mechanisms for advancing current and future projects based on a roadmap approach.
