ISLAMABAD ( WNAM REPORT): A delegation of 17 officers from the 37th Senior Management Course (SMC) at the National Institute of Public Administration (NIPA), Islamabad, visited BISP Headquarters today. Chairperson BISP, Senator Rubina Khalid, and Secretary Amer Ali Ahmad welcomed the SMC officers. The purpose of the visit was to explore BISP’s operations and expertise in implementing social protection programs aimed at uplifting marginalized segments of society.
While addressing the officers, Senator Rubina Khalid stated that BISP embodies the vision of Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto, providing a national identity to millions of poor women in the country. She emphasized that biometric verification of payments ensures the mobility and empowerment of beneficiaries. She further highlighted that BISP upholds transparency and respects the dignity of its beneficiaries, in line with the directives of the President of Pakistan, Asif Ali Zardari.
Moreover, she informed the SMC officers that BISP, in collaboration with the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, is initiating a pilot project for digital payments to beneficiaries through the opening of bank accounts. Senator Rubina Khalid stressed the importance of training, stating that it is a continuous learning process where every moment offers an opportunity to learn something new. She wished the officers success in becoming effective policymakers and implementers.
Secretary Amer Ali Ahmad stated that through BISP, the Government of Pakistan is providing financial assistance to those who need it most. He emphasized that all payments are made through the women of deserving households, a unique feature that enhances their role and importance within the family. He also highlighted the significance of such training programs, explaining that these initiatives are not only designed to enhance skills but also to enable officers to present their knowledge in a concise and effective manner.
Earlier, Additional Secretary Dr. Tahir Noor delivered an insightful briefing to the visiting officers, elaborating on the foundational principles of BISP, its extensive nationwide presence, and its mission of empowering disadvantaged communities. He shed light on BISP’s core initiatives, including flagship programs such as Benazir Kafaalat, Benazir Taleemi Wazaif, Benazir Nashonuma, the National Socio-Economic Registry, the new payment model, and the Skill Development Program.
An interactive question-and-answer session was also conducted, during which participants actively inquired about BISP’s initiatives. In closing, the participants expressed their gratitude for the comprehensive briefing, particularly BISP’s efforts to uplift marginalized segments of society, especially in promoting the economic empowerment of women. At the end of the session, a commemorative shield was presented to the Secretary BISP on behalf of NIPA.
