WNAM REPORT: President Serdar Berdimuhamedov received UN Deputy Secretary-General Rabab Fatima to discuss issues related to holding the Third UN Conference on Landlocked Developing Countries (LLDC), scheduled for August this year.
During the meeting, Rabab Fatima conveyed greetings from UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres to the head of state and National Leader of the Turkmen people, Chairman of the Halk Maslahaty Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov. She also emphasized the importance of Turkmenistan’s positive neutrality policy for global peace and sustainable development.
The parties exchanged views on organizational measures to prepare for the Conference. President Serdar Berdimuhamedov noted the special attention paid in Turkmenistan to the development of the transport and communications sector. According to him, the country’s favorable geographical position creates a reliable basis for expanding the transport and logistics network, which determines measures to create regional international multimodal transport corridors North-South and East-West.
The head of state recalled that in 2022, an International Conference was held in the Avaza National Tourist Zone with the participation of transport ministers of landlocked developing countries, where topical issues of creating sustainable transport and transit corridors were discussed.
At the end of the meeting, the President of Turkmenistan confirmed the country’s readiness to further expand mutually beneficial cooperation with the UN and its specialized structures.
