Jakarta (WNAM MONITORING) The Indonesian Navy has strived to boost its combat capabilities and forged cooperation with other military forces to preserve maritime security in the Indo-Pacific region, Chief of Staff, Admiral Muhammad Ali, has said.
Speaking at the Ottawa Conference on Security and Defence on Thursday, he listed several violations that occur frequently in the Indo-Pacific region, such as armed robbery at sea, piracy, illegal fishing, drug smuggling, and human trafficking.
To address these issues, the Indonesian Navy has tried to increase its combat capabilities so that it can take action against perpetrators that threaten Indonesia’s maritime sovereignty in the Indo-Pacific region, he said, according to a statement received here.
“The Indonesian Navy continues to modernize and build an organization to strengthen maritime security stability, including increasing combat readiness and expanding law enforcement and humanitarian assistance,” Ali added.
In addition, the Navy has strengthened cooperation with military forces, which is useful for strengthening maritime defense in the Indo-Pacific.
He said he is sure that by building cooperation with other countries, military strength for maintaining maritime sovereignty can be increased and bilateral relations between countries in the Indo-Pacific region can become well-established.
Thus, the Ottawa Conference on Security and Defence is expected to support cooperation between countries to ensure stability in maritime security.
