WNAM REPORT: Indonesia’s National Alms Agency (Baznas) is implementing the Habitable House (RLHB) program during the holy month of Ramadan, aiming to renovate the homes of 100 alms beneficiaries in 12 provinces across the country.
In a statement issued on Friday, the agency said that the targeted provinces include those located on the islands of Bangka Belitung, Sumatra, Java, Sulawesi, and Papua.
“Housing is a basic need for humans,” said Saidah Sakwan, Baznas’ head of distribution and utilization.
She added that a safe and comfortable home allows alms beneficiaries to live better and become more productive.
“Hence, Baznas remains committed to assisting those in need, especially in this blessed month,” she said.
Sakwan emphasized that the RLHB program plays a crucial role in enhancing the welfare of individuals and communities by ensuring equal access to habitable homes for all.
Among the beneficiaries of this program is Arif Rizal, a marbot (mosque caretaker) in Bogor, West Java. The roof of his house had collapsed due to termite damage, forcing him to rent a home.
“The story of Mr. Arif is proof that the RLHB program has a concrete impact on the lives of alms beneficiaries. Through this program, we aim to ensure that no families live in uninhabitable homes that may endanger their lives,” Sakwan stated.
She noted that the implementation of this program reflects the strong synergy between Baznas’ central and regional offices.
Baznas’ offices in various regions are working to ensure the program runs smoothly and effectively.
“Each renovated house has undergone survey and verification processes to ensure that this program aids those in need,” Sakwan remarked.
In addition to the RLHB program, Baznas is also implementing a range of initiatives with similar objectives during this year’s month of fasting, including those focused on providing meals and educational activities for marginalized groups.
