WNAM REPORT: At least 38 people have been killed and 63 injured in rain-related incidents across Pakistan since the onset of the monsoon season on June 26, the local Samaa TV channel reported Sunday, citing the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA).
The NDMA said the northwestern province of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa experienced the highest death toll, with 19 fatalities caused by rain-induced incidents.
In eastern Punjab province, 12 deaths were recorded, while southern Sindh province and southwestern Balochistan province reported a combined total of seven fatalities.
The heavy rains that swept through several regions from June 26-28 also caused infrastructure damage and disrupted transportation, particularly in low-lying and high-risk areas.
Authorities have cautioned that monsoon conditions are expected to continue in several parts of the country, with scattered rain likely in northern Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Punjab’s plains and areas of Sindh.
Rainfall is also forecast in Balochistan by the Pakistan Meteorological Department.
In addition, the NDMA has issued a flash flood alert for Swat and neighboring districts due to the potential threat of glacial lake outburst floods in Gilgit-Baltistan in northern Pakistan.
Rescue and relief efforts are ongoing in the affected regions, and provincial disaster management agencies have been instructed to remain on high alert.
