ISLAMABAD ( WNAM REPORT ): A four-member delegation from Fiji National University (FNU) recently visited the National Agriculture Research Centre (NARC) in Islamabad. During their visit, they held productive discussions with Dr. Ghulam Muhammad Ali, Chairman of the Pakistan Agriculture Research Council (PARC). The primary focus of the meeting was to explore potential avenues for mutual cooperation and collaboration in agriculture between Fiji and Pakistan.
The delegation’s visit centered on key agricultural topics such as water-efficient irrigation techniques, smart farming practices, the role of artificial intelligence (AI) in agriculture, and advancements in dairy farming. Both parties expressed a strong mutual interest in sharing expertise and fostering bilateral cooperation to enhance agricultural productivity and sustainability. The delegation also aimed to explore advanced agricultural technologies including smart irrigation, integrated pest management and soil health solutions.
Dr. Ghulam Muhammad Ali emphasized Pakistan’s commitment to modernizing its agricultural sector by integrating state-of-the-art technologies. He highlighted the importance of establishing partnerships with international institutions, like Fiji National University, to exchange knowledge and promote long-term collaboration. He also underscored the potential benefits of increased agricultural trade between the two countries.
During the visit, the FNU delegation toured several leading research facilities at NARC, including the National Institute for Genomics and Advanced Biotechnology (NIGAB), the Plant Genetic Resources Institute (PGRI), the Horticulture Research Institute (HRI), and the Speed Breeding Facility. These advanced laboratories are at the forefront of agricultural innovation and are crucial in providing deeper insights into Pakistan’s progress in science and technology.
The delegation expressed optimism about building a stronger partnership to support agricultural innovation and trade. They acknowledged Pakistan’s impressive advancements and recognized the importance of collaborative research and knowledge exchange to create a resilient and modern agricultural future for both nations. The delegation also stated that they want to seek help from PARC to upgrade their country’s agriculture sector.
