WNAM REPORT: The Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI) confirmed the ongoing construction of headquarters for several of the six military regional commands (Kodam) recently launched by President Prabowo Subianto for the Army (TNI-AD).

“It is our hope that the physical construction works will be completed by the end of this year,” Head of the TNI-AD Information Office Brigadier General Wahyu Yudhayana remarked at the Army Headquarters in Central Jakarta on Monday (August 11).

He noted that some of the new kodams already have headquarters, including Kodam XXII/Tambun Bungai, which covers Central Kalimantan and South Kalimantan.

The officer emphasized that the absence of headquarters does not hinder the other regional commands from operating properly.

“It should be noted that the kodams began their operations immediately after being inaugurated, following certain procedures, of course,” Yudhayana remarked.

Regarding defense capability, he assured that the TNI had prepared sufficient personnel and defense equipment for each kodam. He also stated that the military has no plans to recruit new personnel specifically for these commands.

On Sunday (August 10), President Prabowo presided over a ceremony marking a major structural expansion of the TNI at the Education and Training Center of the TNI-AD Special Force Command (Kopassus) in West Bandung, West Java.

He inaugurated six new kodams and installed major generals to lead each:

  • Kodam XIX/Tuanku Tambusai of Riau and Riau Islands – Maj. Gen. Agus Hadi Waluyo
  • Kodam XX/Tuanku Imam Bonjol of West Sumatra and Jambi – Maj. Gen. Arief Gajah Mada
  • Kodam XXI/Radin Inten of Lampung and Bengkulu – Maj. Gen. Kristomei Sianturi
  • Kodam XXII/Tambun Bungai of Central Kalimantan and South Kalimantan – Maj. Gen. Zainul Arifin
  • Kodam XXIII/Palaka Wira of Central Sulawesi and West Sulawesi – Maj. Gen. Jonathan Binsar Parluhutan Sianipar
  • Kodam XXIV/Mandala Trikora of South Papua – Maj. Gen. Lucky Avianto

The president also inaugurated 14 similar units for the Indonesian Navy (TNI-AL) and three for the Indonesian Air Force (TNI-AU).
