WNAM REPORT: Blessed with a long coastline, year-round sunshine, and steady, strong winds – ideal conditions for water sports – Mui Ne ward in Lam Dong province is steadily transforming itself from a well-known resort destination into one of Vietnam and the region’s top spots for sea sports tourism.

Activities such as kitesurfing, surfing, windsurfing, and stand-up paddleboarding (SUP) not only draw large numbers of international visitors but also open up a sustainable development pathway for the locality’s tourism.

Recently, National Geographic Traveller named Mui Ne a leading water sports destination in Southeast Asia. The magazine praised it as an ideal location for windsurfing, kitesurfing, SUP, paragliding, parasailing, and other sea-based experiences, thanks to its unique geographical and climatic features: strong winds, consistent waves, and dry weather year-round.

With particularly great weather, the area is rarely affected by typhoons, allowing outdoor sports activities to take place in most months of the year.

Mui Ne has already hosted numerous international water sports competitions, including the Windsurfing World Cup Tournament of the Professional Windsurfers Association (PWA) and the annual Windsurf Mui Ne Fun Cup, attracting professional athletes from around the globe. Experts and competitors alike regard it as one of Asia’s best beaches for the sport, with perfect wind and wave conditions.

Having visited Mui Ne at least five times for kite surfing since first coming eight years ago, Canadian tourist Adam Fulford said he was drawn by its mild climate and ideal water sports conditions.

Meanwhile, German visitor Lexandra noted that friends had recommended Mui Ne as one of Asia’s best water sports destinations, praising the professionalism of local instructors and saying she felt safe and had a great time even as a beginner.

Beyond water sports, Mui Ne offers pristine beaches, crystal-clear water, rolling golden dunes, rustic fishing villages, and a range of seaside resorts – combining unspoilt charm with modern comfort. The ward is now home to over 380 tourism establishments along its coast.

The mergence of Ham Tien ward and Thien Nghiep commune (part of former Phan Thiet city in former Binh Thuan province) into Mui Ne has created a larger area with greater development potential. This expansion lays the groundwork for establishing Mui Ne as a national and international centre for resort tourism and marine sports.

According to the People’s Committee of Mui Ne ward, in the coming time, it will focus on green and sustainable tourism, linking marine tourism growth with ecosystem conservation and restoration. Efforts will continue to implement the master plan for the Mui Ne National Tourism Area through to 2025, with a vision to 2030.

The ward is diversifying its tourism products, with a focus on developing distinctive products. It is also intensifying promotion, attracting tourism investment, and facilitating regional and national cultural and entertainment events.

Resolution No. 08/NQ-HDND of the Lam Dong provincial People’s Council for the 2021–2026 term on socio-economic development solutions for the second half of 2025 states that the locality will step up promotion of the brands “Da Lat – a Magical Land of Wonders” and “Mui Ne – Resort Capital” in key markets such as Japan, the Republic of Korea, Europe, and China.
