WNAM MONITORING: Turkmenistan’s Minister of Automobile Transport Begench Annadurdyyev and Minister of Railway Transport Mammet Akmammedov held talks with Uzbekistan’s Minister of Transport Ilkhom Makhkamov on the sidelines of the Third United Nations Conference on Landlocked Developing Countries, held on August 5–8 in Avaza. A key focus of the meeting was the use of Turkmenistan’s seaports to improve logistics efficiency and expand bilateral export-import operations.
The officials also discussed prospects for bilateral cooperation in the in road and rail transport, as well as the development of international multimodal transport corridors, according to the Ministry of Transport of the Republic of Uzbekistan.
These engagements, the statement noted, help strengthen the partnership between the two countries and open up new opportunities for integrating regional transport systems.
The Turkmenbashi International Seaport is the largest and most advanced port in the Caspian region. Spanning more than 150 hectares, the port has an annual throughput capacity of 17 million tons of cargo. It can also accommodate up to 300,000 passengers, 75,000 freight vehicles, and 400,000 TEU containers annually. Additionally, the port handles up to 3 million tons of bulk cargo and 4 million tons of general cargo, excluding oil products.
