Police arrest 3,195 over violent demonstrations across Indonesia

Jakarta ( WNAM MONITORING ): The Indonesian National Police (Polri) have arrested 3,195 individuals suspected of involvement in violent demonstrations.

“According to preliminary data collected from regional police departments, 387 suspects have been released, 55 have been officially named as suspects, and 2,753 are currently under investigation,” said Brigadier General Trunoyudo Wisnu Andiko, Head of the Public Relations Division of Polri, in Jakarta on Monday.

Trunoyudo detailed the distribution of detainees as follows:

1. Jakarta Police (Polda Metro Jaya) : 1,240 individuals.
2. East Java Regional Police (Polda Jatim) : 709 individuals; 173 released, 485 under investigation, and 51 named suspects.
3. Central Java Regional Police (Polda Jateng) : 653 individuals currently under investigation.
4. West Java Regional Police (Polda Jabar) : 147 individuals; 23 released, 124 under investigation.
5. Bali Regional Police (Polda Bali) : 138 individuals; 38 released, 100 under investigation.
6. West Kalimantan Regional Police (Polda Kalbar) : 91 individuals; 86 released, 5 under investigation.
7. South Sumatra Regional Police (Polda Sumsel) : 63 individuals under investigation.
8. Yogyakarta Special Region Police (Polda DIY) : 60 individuals under investigation.
9. North Sumatra Regional Police (Polda Sumut) : 50 individuals; 48 released, 2 under investigation for testing positive for narcotics.
10. Jambi Regional Police (Polda Jambi) : 17 individuals, all released.
11. Banten Regional Police (Polda Banten) : 15 individuals under investigation.
12. West Sulawesi Regional Police (Polda Sulbar) : 6 individuals under investigation.
13. Southwest Papua Regional Police (Polda Papua Barat Daya) : 4 individuals named suspects.
14. Central Sulawesi Regional Police (Polda Sulteng) : 1 individual released.
15. West Nusa Tenggara Regional Police (Polda NTB) : 1 individual released.
Earlier, President Prabowo Subianto ordered National Police Chief General Listyo Sigit Prabowo and Indonesian Armed Forces Commander General Agus Subiyanto to take firm action against anarchic acts in several regions.
“The President’s directive is clear: for anarchic acts, the TNI and Polri are instructed to take firm action in accordance with the law,” said General Listyo Sigit.
He emphasized that law enforcement measures will be carried out proportionately to ensure public order is restored.
“All of these actions are for the wider public interest and to maintain national stability,” he added.
