ISLAMABAD ( WNAM REPORT ): Ambassador of Uzbekistan to Pakistan, Alisher Tukhtaev, congratulated Sheharyar Memon on his appointment as focal person of the Prime Minister Youth Programme (PMYP) for overseas and business and trade linkages. The two discussed ways to promote bilateral economic ties between Pakistan and Uzbekistan.
Sheharyar Memon highlighted the significance of the upcoming second direct flight between Tashkent and Islamabad, scheduled to operate on September 28, 2025. This development is expected to boost economic, trade, cultural, and tourism integration between the two countries.
The Uzbek Ambassador expressed his country’s readiness to deepen cooperation with Pakistan in tourism and cultural exchanges. He emphasized the importance of air connectivity in fostering economic ties and noted that Uzbekistan Airways is operating direct flights from Tashkent to Lahore and Islamabad.
Alisher Tukhtaev also shared Uzbekistan’s economic progress under President Shavkat Mirziyoyev’s leadership, highlighting a growth rate of over 6% per annum and a doubling of GDP in just eight years. He mentioned significant investments, increased exports, and growing foreign exchange reserves.
The Ambassador outlined Uzbekistan’s development goals, including attracting additional investments, increasing renewable energy share, and promoting industrial output. He emphasized the country’s transformation into a modern economy, with a strong focus on technology, infrastructure, and job creation.
This development is expected to further strengthen Pakistan-Uzbekistan economic ties and promote cooperation in trade, tourism, and culture.
