The meeting discussed in detail projects aimed at resolving Islamabad’s water issues, including the installation of water meters, reducing non-revenue water, making water pumps energy-efficient, repairing and rehabilitating of sewerage lines and fully operationalizing the Sewage Treatment Plant (STP).

During the briefing, it was apprised that Transaction Advisory Services are being acquired under relevant rules to complete these projects of Islamabad Water through Public-Private Partnership (PPP). The meeting considered the technical aspects and the need to launch these PPP-based projects at least the earliest.

The meeting was briefed that work is commencing on installing water meters across Islamabad to reduce water loss and non-revenue water. It was informed that consultants will initially complete a comprehensive survey and study regarding the water meters. Similarly, under the PPP model, all water pumps and motors will be made energy-efficient to reduce the electricity expenses of Islamabad Water. Chairman CDA Muhammad Ali Randhawa said that this will reduce the financial burden on CDA and the income saved from these measures would be spent on the better water service delivery in Islamabad.

The briefing also highlighted that projects for the repair and rehabilitation of sewerage lines and fully activating the sewage treatment plant (STP) in Islamabad will be initiated. In the first phase, feasibility studies for all these projects will be prepared.

Chairman CDA Muhammad Ali Randhawa directed that citizens should ensure payment of water bills through cashless methods and QR codes. He said that carbon credit acquisition will also be incorporated into Islamabad Water’s projects, which will not only promote environmental protection but also generate additional financial resources.

Chairman CDA directed that timelines and targets should be fixed for the complete implementation of these projects and a working group should be formed to monitor and ensure their effective execution.
