Falling Standards

Many critics believe that standard has fallen in many fields of life over the past quarter of a century or so.  If we look at the sports we notice that squash player of the caliber of Hasham Khan wasn’t seen by the squash courts of the world after his demise. Likewise hockey player like Diyan Chand hasn’t come after his departure from this world. The football world hasn’t seen the like of Maradona after he joined the great majority. If we dig deep into the fine arts we don’t see the likes of Dilip Kumar, Lata Mangheskar, Noor jehan , Rafi, Ustad Barey Ghulam Ali Khan, Nushad Ali, Khurshid Anwar, Faiz Ahmad Faiz and many more.

In the world of politics we no longer see leaders like Abraham Lincoln, Winston Churchil, Roosevelt, Mao TSE Tung, Chou en Lai, Mohammad Ali Jinnah, Gandhi, Nelson Mandela, Marshal Tito, Soekarno.

Broadcasters like ZA Bukhari, Omar Qureshi are a rare commodity. Now one doesn’t find philosophers like Bertrand Russell, Confucius any more Economists and protagonists of social and economic justice like Marx’s and Angels are difficult to find.
