WNAM MONITORING: A significant step in strengthening economic ties between Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan was recently taken with the launch of the joint border trade zone “Shavat–Dashoguz.” The initiative reflects the collaborative efforts of the two countries’ leaders to promote mutually beneficial cooperation and expand trade turnover.

The joint trade zone covers a total area of six hectares, with three hectares allocated to the Uzbek sector and three hectares to the Turkmen sector.

The covered trade pavilion accommodates 112 market stalls and 28 specialized shops offering a wide assortment of goods. Additionally, 16 trading points are provided in two separate blocks. Products manufactured in Uzbekistan will be exported to Turkmenistan, while goods produced in Turkmenistan will enter the Uzbek market, fostering entrepreneurship and strengthening trade and economic ties between the two nations.

One of the key advantages of the new zone is its simplified trade regime. A modern customs post equipped with the latest technology ensures smooth and transparent movement of goods and people across the border. Citizens of Uzbekistan and Turkmenistan can access the border trade zone without a visa, enhancing friendly relations and economic cooperation.

The trade zone features modern infrastructure, including trading pavilions, warehouses, and container sites. The “Single Window” center provides a full range of services, including customs, tax, and certification procedures, facilitating business operations. Banking services, currency exchange points, hotels, and medical facilities are also available for the convenience of entrepreneurs and visitors.

Construction of the “Shavat–Dashoguz” zone, which began in October 2022, is considered a strategic platform to increase trade turnover, promote national products, and create new opportunities for entrepreneurship and economic growth in both countries.
