Baku: Political parties are actively participating in the presidential election scheduled for February 7, 2024.
The “Election – 2024” Independent Media Center of Azerbaijan`s Central Election Commission (CEC) reports that the CEC has approved and registered the nominations of candidates from all political parties for the presidency, with 5 out of 7 candidates competing for free election being party nominees.
It is evident that political parties, driven by their primary goal of engaging in political processes, are participating in election with various statuses. Even political parties not fielding candidates in the elections are demonstrating substantial interest in the presidential election, actively contributing to ensuring transparency. This involvement includes a large number of observers and advisory commission members with voting rights. As of today, a total of 30,000 observers from 19 political parties have been accredited to monitor the election, having successfully completed the accreditation process at both the Central Election Commission and district election commissions. This process continues to intensify.
Political parties hold a distinctive and influential position as core electoral subjects in the country’s elections. The current election legislation of Azerbaijan provides comprehensive and broad opportunities for political parties to participate in elections in accordance with their goals and objectives. Past election experience clearly indicate that the role of political parties in elections and their capacity to influence social and political processes are increasing year by year. The conductive environment in the Republic, designed to foster the development, strengthening and active involvement of political parties in social and political processes, significantly contributes to this positive trend.
