Pandit Jawarlal Nehru and his Congress party had zealously tried to built up secular image of India in the world. The hard core religious jingoists of BJP have destroyed that image with their extremism.
Not that Congress had no religious fanatics in its ranks Sardar Patel once the Indian home minister shared the same ideology which the BJP propagates. He was instrumental in killing Mahatma Gandhi because in his own wisdom he thought that he nursed a soft corner in his heart for Indian Muslims. Had the BJP remained in the hands of leaders like Advani it would have been better for religious minorities living in India. The day its leadership passed into the hands of religious fanatics like Nirendra Modi and Amit Shah the entire complexion of Indian politics changed. They have the audacity to openly tell the Indian Muslims that their ancestors were Hindus who were forcibly converted to Islam by what they call marauders from Afghanistan through use of force therefore if they want to live in India they will rejoin Hinduism or else they had better leave for Pakistan. Their treatment of Christians too is not much different as is evident from their excesses on them during this Christmas in India. There is an urgent need to spotlight these facts in the forum of UN so that this ugly face of India is made public which claims to be the biggest democracy in the world.
