Reports are that India is going to earmark a hefty amount in its forthcoming budget for purchase of latest weaponry. Obviously it is not building its armory for use against China its only target is Pakistan. It is, therefore, of paramount importance that Pakistan too should fortify its defense against India’s machination.
The armed forces of Pakistan have been doing excellent job by defending its frontiers and foiling attempts of New Delhi to subdue Pakistan. To contain onslaught of an army six times bigger than itself is no mean achievement it proves, if any proof is required that it is not the gun but the man behind the gun who matters. It would be better if the defence of the country is buttressed by raising a people’s army of the civilians also like the one raised by Tel Aviv which has been imparting military training to its civilian population too as a result of which in a war, 72 thousand civilians duly equipped with weaponry join the main army in the battle field on a short notice of 24 hours.

The fire brigades available with the municipal institutions in the country are good for nothing. Seldom have they succeeded in putting out the fire and the civil administration had to requisition fire brigades from cantonment boards and armed forces to extinguish fire. The local government had better evolve an effective fire brigade service on the pattern on which many countries have developed it so that in times of need invaluable human lives and property worth millions of rupees are saved from fire by getting it extinguished in time.
