Tashkent: Uzbekistan produced 6.19 million tons of coal in January-December 2023, the Statistics Agency said in a statement.
Compared to the corresponding period in 2022, production volume increased by 15.5%.
In December 2023, large enterprises produced 456,800 tons of coal.
The republic has 44 sizable coal mines, including the Angren, Shargun, and Boysun mines. Recently, construction works started on a new coal mine situated in the upper region of the Topalang reservoir in the Surkhandarya region.
The Topalang coal mine basin is positioned at an elevation of 1,450m above sea level. As of September 2023, about 35,000 tons of coal reserves were extracted from the mine and readied for distribution to consumers.
