Jakarta (WNAM MONITORING): Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto is set to travel to Moscow this week for talks with Russian President Vladimir Putin to serve national interests.
Foreign Affairs Minister Sugiono described the forthcoming visit as a strategic agenda and confirmed he plans to accompany the president.
“The departure is scheduled for this week. The visit is of chief strategic value for the Indonesian nation, as he (Prabowo) will meet with President Putin,” he told the press in Jakarta on Saturday, April 11, without specifying the flight date.
The minister underscored that the Moscow summit would address a range of issues of mutual concern including recent geopolitical dynamics.
Matters tied to energy supply and security will also be a primary focus during the meeting between the two leaders.
Prabowo will mark his third visit to Russia since taking office following trips to Saint Petersburg in June 2025 and Moscow last December.
As president-elect, he was also received by President Putin in the Russian capital in July 2024 to discuss regional stability.
During the 2025 engagements, both governments highlighted avenues for cooperation in developing new and renewable energy as well as nuclear technology.
President Putin previously voiced the readiness of Moscow to assist Indonesia in tapping nuclear potential for peaceful purposes.
Prabowo first hinted at this return visit during a speech before senior officials at the State Palace in Jakarta on Wednesday, April 8.
The president stated that he would soon make another overseas trip specifically to secure a stable oil supply for Indonesia.
He conveyed the plan while rejecting suggestions that he frequently traveled abroad for ceremonial purposes during his address to the officials.
The president stressed that he must visit partner nations to secure oil amid disrupted global distribution caused by restricted access through the Strait of Hormuz.
The head of state affirmed that souring geopolitics had prompted the government to proactively foster communication with foreign partners to keep the economy stable.
Prabowo believes that national economic stability largely depends on energy security and he most recently visited Japan and South Korea for this purpose.
