ISLAMABAD ( WNAM REPORT ): Sardar Masood Khan, former Ambassador of Pakistan to the United States, China and the United Nations, has stated that Pakistan has maintained unwavering diplomatic engagement following the first phase of US–Iran contacts, successfully sustaining momentum and rebuilding confidence between the parties.
He categorically rejected perceptions of any diplomatic setback, asserting that Pakistan remained fully active after the initial round of negotiations. “There was no disappointment in Pakistan’s role or resolve,” he said, adding that Islamabad intensified its outreach to ensure continuity in the peace process.
Highlighting key diplomatic initiatives, Sardar Masood Khan noted that Field Marshal Asim Munir undertook a critical visit to Tehran, engaging with Iran’s top leadership, while Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif conducted a series of high-level visits to regional capitals, including Doha, Riyadh, and Ankara. These efforts, he emphasized, were aimed at building regional consensus and demonstrating solidarity with Iran while reinforcing Pakistan’s credibility as a mediator.
He described the recent visit of Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi to Pakistan as a clear indication of Tehran’s trust in Islamabad. “His arrival sends a strong signal that Iran continues to repose confidence in Pakistan’s facilitation role,” he observed, noting that attempts to create confusion or undermine Pakistan’s position had failed.
Sardar Masood Khan explained that Pakistan is now actively facilitating the exchange of proposals between Washington and Tehran. He revealed that multiple proposals have already been shared by both sides, and that Iran’s latest response has been conveyed through Pakistan, reflecting Islamabad’s role as a conduit for sensitive diplomatic communication.
He expressed cautious optimism that a US delegation may also visit Pakistan in the coming days, enabling proximity talks. Such an arrangement, he said, would allow both sides to engage indirectly while Pakistan bridges the communication gap and works to narrow differences.
Describing the evolving process as part of a broader continuum, he said that Pakistan’s diplomacy has transitioned from initial engagement to a more structured phase focused on technical, legal, and political aspects of a potential agreement. “Every conflict ultimately finds resolution at the negotiating table,” he remarked, stressing that sustained engagement is essential.
He further underlined that Pakistan’s leadership has maintained close coordination with global stakeholders, including major powers and regional actors, thereby strengthening its diplomatic leverage and international standing.
Concluding his remarks, Sardar Masood Khan emphasized that Pakistan will continue its efforts with patience and determination. “This is a responsibility entrusted to Pakistan, and we are committed to carrying it forward to help secure peace and stability, not just for the region but for the entire world,” he said.
