Jakarta ( WNAM MONITORING): Deputy Communication and Digital Affairs Minister Nezar Patria has outlined Indonesia’s potential to enter the growing global artificial intelligence (AI) industry supply chain.
“We are the world’s largest tin producer. Tin is a key material in the chip manufacturing process,” Patria said here on Wednesday.
He said Indonesia also has silica sand, which contains silicon, a raw material used in semiconductor manufacturing.
However, he said Indonesia is currently only able to supply raw materials and has not yet been able to process them according to industry needs.
He emphasized that Indonesia must improve its capacity to process resources so that it can take part in the AI industry supply chain.
In addition to being rich in raw materials, Patria said Indonesia has abundant resources to support data centers for AI development.
“We have an energy advantage, renewable energy. Our electricity production is quite large, and it was abundant even a year ago, with a surplus of electrical energy,” he said.
Patria also highlighted Indonesia’s large population could provide human resources to support the development of the AI industry.
“We have the largest population in Southeast Asia, 285 million people with an average age of 30,” he said.
The Ministry of Communication and Digital Affairs has rolled out the AI Talent Factory program to improve talents that can support AI development.
“We are trying to gather the best talent from universities, and then provide them with basic to advanced programs on how to deliver AI solutions,” he said.
With the support of its resources and the right strategy, Patria said Indonesia could become an important player in the AI industry supply chain.
