WNAM REPORT:  Indonesia and Australia have reaffirmed their shared commitment to enhancing transportation safety cooperation through the Indonesia-Australia Transport Safety Forum held in Canberra and Sydney.

The event served as a strategic high-level forum in the transportation sector under the framework of the Indonesian Transport Safety Assistance Package (ITSAP) cooperation between Indonesia and Australia.

“This forum serves as a platform to strengthen bilateral collaboration in support of creating a safe, secure, and sustainable transportation system,” Acting Director of the Indonesian Sea and Coast Guard (KPLP) at the Ministry of Transportation, Triono, said in a statement on Wednesday.

He noted that the forum discussed the evaluation of transportation safety cooperation between Indonesia and Australia, while also formulating the 2026-2027 cooperation action plan.

The forum covered various strategic issues, including shipping safety, maritime environmental protection, and improved coordination in search and rescue (SAR) operations.
In addition, discussions also focused on transportation incident investigations, strengthening transportation safety policies and regulations, as well as enhancing institutional and human resource capacity in the transportation sector.

Furthermore, Triono stated that the forum also hosted a subworking group meeting between KPLP and the Australian Maritime Safety Authority (AMSA).
“During the meeting, both parties discussed several follow-up programs in the field of maritime environmental protection that will be carried out collaboratively,” Triono remarked.

The cooperation programs to be followed up include Basic Equipment Operation (BEO) Training, OILMAP Training, SPILL ASIA, the National Plan Exercise Australia, the Regional MARPOL Exercise, and Oil Sampling Training.

Through the forum, Indonesia and Australia reaffirmed their joint commitment to continuously strengthening synergy in the transportation sector, especially in realizing a safe, secure, and sustainable transportation system.

Triono stated that the commitment is designed to support regional connectivity and the economic growth of both countries.
