President of the Islamabad Tyres Association (ITA), Riaz Khan, has said that strengthening and improving Pakistan’s local tire industry is crucial for the country’s economy, industrial development, and employment generation. He stated that if the government focuses on resolving the challenges faced by the local industry and adopts business-friendly policies, Pakistan can not only meet its domestic demand through local production but also significantly increase tire exports.

Riaz Khan said that the local tire industry provides employment to thousands of people and plays a vital role in the national economy. However, rising production costs, heavy duties on raw materials, high energy tariffs, and illegal smuggling remain major obstacles to the sector’s growth.

He urged the government to create a conducive environment for local manufacturers, rationalize taxes and duties on raw materials, and take effective action against substandard and smuggled tires so that the local industry can compete on a level playing field.
