Jakarta(WNAM Monitoring): Indonesia is building two underground stacked stations for mass rapid transit (MRT) in Jakarta.
The stations are located on the MRT line between the Sawah Besar and Mangga Besar areas in central Jakarta and are part of the MRT Phase 2A project.
“These stations will be the first underground stacked stations in Indonesia,” said Weni Maulina, Director of Construction at PT MRT Jakarta, in Jakarta on Tuesday.
She said the two stations are being built with the same design at a depth of 28 meters below ground level.
“The concepts of stacked platforms and stacked tunnels are used due to the limited space in the areas,” she said.
Sawah Besar Station and Mangga Besar Station will have four floors with north and south lines on separate floors.
Construction of MRT Phase 2A, the Harmoni-Sawah Besar-Mangga Besar line, began on June 25, 2022, and has reached 25.54 percent progress as of January 25, 2024.
The project connects Bundaran HI Station in downtown with Kota Station in West Jakarta with a 5.8-kilometer route and passes through five stations: Monas, Harmoni, Sawah Besar, Mangga Besar, and Glodok.
Construction is divided into two segments. The first segment (Bundaran HI-Harmoni) is targeted for completion in 2027, and the second segment (Harmoni-Kota) is targeted for completion in 2029.
The project will cost Rp22.5 trillion (around US$1.44 billion) and be funded by the governments of Indonesia and Japan.
