TEHRAN: The visiting Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif was received for a meeting with the Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Khamenei to offer condolences to Iran over the martyrdom of late President Raeisi.
In the meeting with the Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei on Wednesday in Tehran, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif offered deep condolences to Iran on behalf of the government and nation of Pakistan over the deaths (martyrdom) of the late president Ebrahim Raeisi and his foreign minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian and their companions in the tragic helicopter crash.
“To Iran, relations with Pakistan are very important as it looks at the country as completely brotherly. However, the relations between the two countries have witnessed ups and downs over the past years, and we believe that during the new government of Pakistan, there is a possibility of a re-enhancement of these relations,” Ayatollah Khamenei told Sharf.
Ayatollah Khameni further said that, “Mr. Raisi’s recent visit to Pakistan can be a turning point in the relations between the two countries, and Mr. Dr. Mokhber will pursue the path of cooperation and agreements.”
Martyred President Ebrahim Raeisi and his entourage including foreign minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian became martyred in a tragic helicopter crash in northwest Iran on May 19.
According to a statement from the Pakistani Embassy in Tehran, during his meeting with the Leader, Prime Minister offered condolences on the tragic demise of President Raeisi and his companions. The prime minister underlined that president Raeisi was a visionary leader who manifested steadfast dedication to serving his country and his people. Recalling late President Raisi’s recent visit to Pakistan in April 2024, the Prime Minister highlighted his commendable role in further strengthening Pakistan-Iran bilateral relations. He added that President Raeisi’s contributions for the unity of Muslim Ummah as well as for the besieged people of Gaza will be etched in history.
The Prime Minister ensured unwavering solidarity with our Iranian brethren at this critical juncture in history. He reiterated Pakistan’s commitment to further strengthening the bonds of friendship and brotherhood with the Government and people of brotherly Iran.
The Prime Minister was accompanied by Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Mohammad Ishaq Dar, Federal Interior Minister Syed Mohsin Naqvi, Federal Commerce Minister Jam Kamal Khan, and Federal Information Minister Attaullah Tarar.
