WNAM Monitoring: Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev delivered his speech at the United Nations Climate Change Conference of the Parties (COP28) held in Dubai, the UAE.

The Kazakh Head of State expressed gratitude to Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan for the COP28 chairmanship.

Today, almost half of the world’s population lives in regions highly dependent on climate change. Those most at risk are small island developing States, landlocked developing countries and least developed countries. Persistent geopolitical instability and energy insecurity also make it difficult to maintain focus on the climate agenda, said the Kazakh President.

He went on to add that Kazakhstan is fully committed to the UN’s urgent call for concrete actions to preserve the environment for the future generations.

Kazakhstan was the first country in the region to ratify the Paris Agreement and adopt the Carbon Neutrality Strategy until 2060. The new Environmental Code of Kazakhstan will contribute to the comprehensive adaptation of green technologies in almost every sector of the national economy. Our country has enormous potential for the development of wind and solar energy, as well as for the production of “green” hydrogen. We will continue to work closely with our partners to unlock this potential. As a leading exporter of uranium, providing 43% of the world’s supply, our country plays a critical role in the production of carbon-free electricity on a global scale, said the Kazakh Head of State.

President  Tokayev arrived at the Dubai Expo City to participate in the opening ceremony of the United Nations Climate Change Conference of the Parties (COP28).

The Kazakh President talked to the heads of state and other participants of the United Nations Climate Change Conference of the Parties (COP28) ahead of the event’s beginning in Dubai.
