The way Maryam Nawaz has been working since assuming the charge of CM Punjab makes her a strong contender for the premiership of the country after the next polls. It seems she has the makings of a prime minister. If she continued to show the same zeal and determination in the discharge of her duties and closely monitored the functioning of ministries and bureaucracy of the province she heads, the developmental projects initiated by her in the various fields of life are bound to yield positive results and this fact will stand her in good stead in the next general elections.
Her grown and growing popularity must be a source of concern for Asif Ali Zardari who had let it be known more than once that he would like to see Bilawal as country’s premier during his life.
If both Bilawal and Maryam Nawaz made it to the national assembly in the next general elections a very close political tussle between Maryam Nawaz and Bilawal for the coveted slot of PM cannot be ruled out
altogether.
Both are young brimming with life and an urge to work for the amelioration of the lot of teeming millions who don’t know where their next meals will come from and age is also on their side. It will ,however, depend a great deal as to how do their political parties fare at the hustings when next general elections are due.
