WNAM MONITORING: President Ersin Tatar met with the United Nations Secretary General’s Personal Envoy, Maria Angela Holguin Cuellar, in London yesterday.
The meeting took place at the TRNC’s London Representative Office, and President Tatar was accompanied by his special representative, Güneş Onar.
Speaking to the Turkish News Agency (TAK) after the meeting, President Tatar said he once again conveyed the Turkish Cypriot side’s position on the Cyprus issue.
President Tatar thanked Holguin for her efforts to find a common ground for the resumption of formal negotiations in Cyprus, stressing that, “at this stage, it’s obvious that there is no common ground”.
President Tatar said that the UN Envoy is scheduled to present her report to the Secretary-General next Wednesday, July 10.
He highlighted that since assuming her mandate, the common ground has diminished further due to the uncompromising position of the Greek Cypriot side, preventing the resumption of a new process in Cyprus.
The President also discussed with Holguin the latest developments on the property issue.
Criticising the actions of the Greek Cypriot leadership against individuals investing in the TRNC’s development sector, he said, “The Greek Cypriot authorities have pursued an organized attack where they are politicising the judiciary.”
“The Immovable Property Commission (IPC), recognized by the European Court of Justice (ECHR), is the effective domestic remedy for property claims in the TRNC,” he stressed.
Tatar will meet with top UN official Colin Stewart in Cyprus this afternoon.
Colin Stewart, Special Representative of the Secretary-General (SRSG) in Cyprus and Head of UNFICYP, met with the Greek Cypriot leader Nikos Christodulides before his briefing to the UN Security Council next week
