ISLAMABAD( WNAM REPORT): An unveiling ceremony of Allama Iqbal Open University Golden Jubilee commemorative postage stamps was held. Federal Minister for Industries and Production, Rana Tanveer Hussain, was the guest of Honor, while Vice Chancellor, Professor Dr. Nasir Mahmood hosted the event.
Addressing the ceremony, Rana Tanveer Hussain said that Allama Iqbal Open University has made significant progress in the field of education, with 2.5 million children out of school in the country, there is a need to bring these children into the educational network. The Federal Minister further stated that to bring prosperity to people’s homes and support the country’s social and economic development, special attention is needed on skills and vocational education, in addition to higher education, so that students can secure respectable employment as soon as they graduate.
Vice Chancellor, AIOU, Professor. Dr. Nasir Mahmood said that the university is celebrating its golden jubilee, and it is essential to mention Shaheed Zulfikar Ali Bhutto, who gave this precious gift to the Pakistani nation. He said that the Prime Minister Mian Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif has recently enforced an educational emergency in the country, and we can play a significant role in this national movement. He added that two hundred thousand teachers from across the country are registered with us, and we have devised a plan to assign each registered teacher a group of 30 children to teach, and in this way, we can educate five million children in the next five years.
DG Pakistan Post, Samiullah Khan, and Additional DG Rizwan Javed Hashmi said that the cooperation between Allama Iqbal Open University and Pakistan Post has been exemplary, as both institutions have the same vision and mission. Pakistan Post is delighted to commemorate the 50th anniversary of Allama Iqbal Open University by issuing 100,000 special stamps, which are available at all major post offices across the country.
Former Senator and education expert Usman Ali Isani said that the university founded by Zulfikar Ali Bhutto has become the largest university in the country in terms of student numbers. He said that the Allama Iqbal Open University has played an exemplary role in increasing literacy rates.
Dean Faculty of Social Science and Humanities, AIOU, Prof. Dr. Abdul Aziz Sahir said that Allama Iqbal Open University is not just an educational institution but also a spiritual centre. He said that wherever there is a light, the Allama Iqbal Open University’s book is also present, and wherever this book is present, there is a bright future.”
