ISLAMABAD( WNAM REPORT): August,1 2024: Pakistan’s Federal Minister for Commerce Jam Kamal Khan has acknowledged the significant contributions that Switzerland’s businesses institutions have made to the development of Pakistan.
Speaking as chief guest to mark Switzerland’s National Day in Islamabad on Thursday the minister said as both countries work towards a future of inclusive growth and sustainable development, their partnership will undoubtedly play a pivotal role in addressing and challenges seizing new common opportunities.
“It is both an honor and a privilege to stand before you today on the occasion of Switzerland’s National Day,” he said.
The minister added that we commemorate 75 years of diplomatic relations between Pakistan and Switzerland. He noted the day, marking Switzerland’s independence and its commitment to unity, peace, and prosperity, offers a moment for reflection and celebration of shared values.
“On behalf of the Government of Pakistan and the people of Pakistan, I extend our heartfelt congratulations to the people of Switzerland on this momentous occasion. Your country’s remarkable journey, characterized by its steadfast neutrality, innovation, and unparalleled commitment to human rights, serves as an inspiring example for nations around the world,” Jam Kamal Khan said.
The minister expressing his views said the relationship between Pakistan and Switzerland has flourished, in recent years, driven by their mutual interests in trade, investment, and sustainable development.
He said the partnership between the countries has seen successful collaborations in various sectors, including technology, education, and infrastructure. The minister went on to say these efforts have not only bolstered our economic ties but have also fostered cultural and intellectual exchange.
“We also recognize the significant contributions that Swiss businesses and institutions have made to Pakistan’s development. Your commitment to innovation and quality has positively impacted various industries in our country. Likewise, Pakistan remains committed to creating a conducive environment for Swiss investors and entrepreneurs,” he said.
The minister said Pakistan looks forward to strengthening ties with Switzerland even further. “Let us build on the foundation of trust and mutual respect that our nations share.” He said.
He added close partnership between the two countries will undoubtedly play a pivotal role in addressing and challenges seizing new common opportunities.
Ambassador of Switzerland Pakistan Georg Steiner in his remarks said over the last 75 years, Pakistan and Switzerland have managed to engage in mutually beneficial relations in various domains. “Today, Switzerland is one of the top foreign-direct investments in Pakistan. Thousands of jobs have been created in the country by a considerable number of Swiss companies,” he said.
He further said, financial trade has been significant and reaches a volume of hundreds of millions of Swiss francs every year.
The envoy said Switzerland and Pakistan will continue to move forward together and to grow together. A large number of ambassadors, Pakistani politicians, officials, senior diplomats, experts, academicians and journalists attended the event.
