Islamabad (WNAM REPORT): The Ambassador of the United Arab Emirates in Islamabad H.E. Hamad Obaid Al Zaabi, expressed his pride in the achievement of Sumiya
Bibi, winner of the Global High Schools category – South Asia Region – for her project
“CORT Education Complex” in the Islamic Republic of Pakistan at the Zayed
Sustainability Prize.
Attending the Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework
Convention on Climate Change (COP28) hosted by the UAE at Expo City Dubai,
Ambassador Al Zaabi said: “I am very proud that the CORT Education Complex won
the Zayed Sustainability Prize and represented Pakistan in this prestigious award.
He said that climbing the victory stage represents a dream come true for this
pioneering educational complex, as this award gave students the opportunity to be
positive members and positive contributors throughout Pakistani society, so that they
become responsible leaders in the future, through the project that revolves around
mitigating climate change, which consists of two frameworks: the first is related to
organic agriculture, and the second is related to water conservation.
Ambassador Al Zaabi added: The idea of the project is to install equipment to
conserve water, build an organic garden, develop a waste-to-fertilizer program, and
organize community health awareness campaigns, and through these campaigns, people
will realize that they must engage in environmentally friendly practices because they are
supposed to be part of sustainable practices, the Ambassador pointed out that the UAE
Embassy in Islamabad will work to expand awareness campaigns to include other
schools and the local community, noting that the project benefits the community,
especially as Pakistan is one of the regions most affected by climate change.
The Ambassador said that the fifteenth Zayed Sustainability Prize has established
the pivotal role of the Prize in promoting and spreading a culture of sustainability,
stimulating climate action around the world, and improving the lives of millions of
people around the world, which supports efforts to address the challenges of climate
change and reduce carbon emissions.
The Ambassador praised the achievements of the winners after being crowned
with the award at the 28th session of the Conference of the Parties to the United Nations
Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP28), hosted by the UAE in Expo City
Dubai, that winning the award includes an exceptional culmination of businesses,
projects, small and medium enterprises, non-profit organizations and secondary schools
that provide sustainable solutions, and stimulate competition among their target groups
to create various solutions that positively affect the lives of millions of people around
the world.
