The entire nation is today brimming with jubilance the likes of which was only seen when in 1960 when Pakistan had won its first gold medal in the Rome’s World Olympics. The same enthusiasm was earlier seen in 1954 when Pakistan’s cricket team beat England in the Oval test on its home ground to earn test status.
Earlier the jubilance of sports lovers of this country knew no bounds when Squash prodigy Hasham Khan won six British open world squash tournaments in a row between 1951 and 1956. No other squash player could beat that record till date.
It is worth mentioning that Hasham continued to win all major squash tournaments in the international circuit besides the British Open squash tournament which is the prime international tournament of squash to date like Wimbledon is of tennis and notable feature of his game was that he was quite active and fighting fit even when he was on the right side of 40 whereas squash players are a spent force after 30.
