WNAM REPORT: August 13 marks a significant milestone for Kazinform International News Agency as it celebrates its 104th birthday. Our media platform in Kazakhstan has gained international recognition for over a century by consistently delivering high-quality and reliable news on significant events in politics, economics, education, healthcare, sports, and culture, both within Kazakhstan and around the world.
Kazinform was founded on August 13, 1920 as the Orenburg-Turgay branch of the Russian Telegraph Agency. In 1925, the agency was renamed KazROST, and in 1937 it was transferred to the Council of People’s Commissars of the Kazakh SSR under the name KazTAG. Since Kazakhstan gained independence, the agency has undergone several significant transformations.
In 1992, KazTAG was transformed into the Kazakh State Information Agency. In 1997, following the decree of the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan, KazTAG was abolished and transformed into the Republican State Enterprise “Kazakh Information Agency” (KazAAG). Since then, the agency has gone through several stages of reorganization and renaming until it became a joint-stock company, the National Company Kazakh Information Agency — JSC NC Kazinform, in 2002.
In 2004, the agency began using a parallel name in Kazakh — “KazAkparat”. In subsequent years, it was part of various media holdings and ministries, including the Ministry of Communications and Information of the Republic of Kazakhstan and the National Information Holding Arna Media. In 2013, the agency was reorganized into the Limited Liability Partnership International Information Agency Kazinform, and in 2019 it was again transformed into a joint-stock company.
Today, Kazinform is part of the “Television and Radio Complex of the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan”. The agency has a central office in Astana and is represented in all regions of Kazakhstan, and also has correspondents in Russia, China, Türkiye, Europe, Azerbaijan, Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan and Jordan.
Kazinform’s content is available in Kazakh, Russian, English, Chinese and Uzbek languages. The news agency is actively represented in social networks such as Instagram, Telegram, Facebook and YouTube, reaching an international audience.
