WNAM REPORT: The health ministry of Kazakhstan has purchased PCR tests for detection of monkeypox virus in Kazakhstan, deputy health minister Timur Sultangaziyev said during a briefing, as per reports.
The epidemiological situation in Kazakhstan is stable, he added.
To prevent the monkeypox virus entry in the country, the health ministry installed thermal-imaging cameras at airports and border crossings. According to the deputy health minister, all the necessary conditions to detect those infected have been created based on the previous COVID-19 pandemic. Mpox treatment guidelines are in place.
Sultangaziyev said that there are no special methods for diagnosis and treatment of monkeypox. Previously, the healthcare ministry recommended Kazakhstani tourists to take precautions due to a monkeypox outbreak.
To add, the World Health Organization declared mpox a global public health emergency for the second time in two years.
Since 2023, 13.7 thousand cases of mpox, killing 456, have been recorded in Africa. A first case of mpox was identified outside the continent after an infection was confirmed in Sweden.
Earlier it was reported that Chinese customs authorities announced tighter surveillance measures at ports of entry to prevent the import of the mpox virus.
