Old jurists say a judge shouldn’t be a speaking judge as from unnecessary exchange of words during the trial of cases in the court room between them and the Counsels some words can come out from the mouth of the judges from which the bent of their mind could be inferred before hand as to what are they upto and what are they going to decide.
So it is advisable that as a measure of abundant caution whatever they want to say they should say it through their written judgements.
There is no denying the fact that this golden rule is honoured more in the breach than observance since long.
