WNAM REPORT: Allama Iqbal Open University (AIOU) is enhancing its academic partnerships with both national and international institutions to better serve its vast student body, according to Vice Chancellor Professor Dr. Nasir Mahmood. This focus on academic agreements was highlighted by Professor Dr. Hajra Ahmed, Dean of the Faculty of Sciences at AIOU, during her address at a documentary screening event titled “Russian Heritage of the Himalayas: The Journey Continues.” The documentary screening was organized by the Faculty of Sciences and the International Collaboration and Exchange department of AIOU, with support from the Russian Embassy in Islamabad.
Dr. Hajra emphasized the university’s commitment to aligning education with global and national needs, citing recent agreements with Russian universities. She also thanked the visiting Russian delegation for gifting two books to the university’s Russian Language Center.
Led by Ivan Chayka, Chairman of Russia’s National Award Committee ‘Crystal Compass,’ a five-member Russian delegation visited AIOU to explore opportunities for collaboration. Other members included Dr. Yuri Efremov, Director of the “Russian Heritage of the Himalayas: The Journey Continues” project, Dmitry Gritsenko of the Russian Geographical Society, Stanislav Osilenko of the Youth Club, and Elena Kolisenkova, Head of Education and Culture at the Russian Embassy. During the visit, Dr. Zahid Majeed, Director of Collaboration and Exchange, briefed the Russian delegation on AIOU’s recent initiatives, including the launch of a Russian Language Center in collaboration with the Ural State Pedagogical University. Following the event, the delegation visited the center and commended the university’s efforts to promote Russian language and culture, recognizing its potential to enhance educational and cultural ties between Pakistan and Russia.
