Yogyakarta (WNAM MONITORING): The Indonesian government is targeting the creation of startups by talents in the Digital Talent Centers (DTCs), according to the Ministry of Communication and Informatics.

Head of the ministry’s Human Resources Development Agency (BPSDM) Hary Budiarto stated here on Saturday that startup creation complements the DTCs’ function of producing digital talent to meet industry needs.

“With the presence of the startups, they can create new jobs,” he affirmed.

With the creation of new jobs, digital talents produced by the government are not only limited to meeting industry needs but can also contribute directly to the growth of the national digital economy.

This is in line with the Ministry of Communication and Informatics’ program to improve the quality of digital talents next year which is expected to increase the Indonesian Digital Society Index (IMDI).

In the IMDI 2024, the ministry conducted assessments in 514 cities and districts and obtained a total score of 43.34, a rise of 0.16 from 2023.

The total score is obtained from assessments conducted on four pillars, namely digital infrastructure, with a score of 52.70; digital skills, 58.25; empowerment, 25.68; and employment, 38.09.

Improving the quality of digital talent is deemed necessary to boost the two pillars of empowerment and employment that are considered still lacking.

So far, 10 DTCs are spread across Indonesia, including in Cikarang, Bandung, Yogyakarta, Surabaya, Banjarmasin, Medan, Makassar, and Manado.

In addition, the Ministry of Communication and Informatics is planning to build other DTCs with three priority areas.

The first priority areas include Jambi, South Sumatra, West Kalimantan, Central Kalimantan, Gorontalo, West Nusa Tenggara, North Sulawesi, Maluku, Papua, and West Papua.

Meanwhile, the second priority areas comprise Riau, Banten, and the new capital city Nusantara, while other provinces are categorized as the third priority areas.
