Baku ( WNAM REPORT ): A delegation led by Aydin Karimov, Special Representative of the Azerbaijani President in Shusha district, visited the city of Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates (UAE), on November 26-27 to participate in “The Days of Shusha,” jointly organized by the Azerbaijani Embassy in the UAE and the Shusha City State Reserve.
The event was held in accordance with the Action Plan regarding the declaration of Shusha as the “Cultural Capital of the Islamic World” for 2024.
During the visit, Special Representative Aydin Karimov met with several Emirati officials, including Sheikh Salem bin Khalid Al Qassimi, the UAE Minister of Culture; Khalid Belhoul, Undersecretary at the UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs; and Saif Al Nasseri, Undersecretary of the UAE Department of Municipalities and Transport.
The Azerbaijani delegation included Elchin Baghirov, Azerbaijani Ambassador to the UAE; Tural Novruzov, Executive Director of the Shusha City State Reserve; and Elshad Iskandarov, Senior Advisor to the Special Representation Office of the Azerbaijani President in Shusha district.
The meetings focused on bilateral relations between Azerbaijan and the UAE, as well as Azerbaijan’s successful hosting of the COP29 conference this year. Emirati officials were briefed on the Shusha City Master Plan, and discussions revolved around enhancing relations between Shusha and Abu Dhabi, developing cultural and educational cooperation, and exchanging experiences.
The Azerbaijani officials also highlighted Shusha’s history, the Armenian vandalism committed in the city, ongoing restoration efforts, initiatives to promote Shusha internationally, and the relocation of citizens to the city.
The “Days of Shusha” event also featured an exhibition titled “Shusha – Yesterday and Today,” showcasing footage of the city’s captivating nature, its appearance before and after Armenian occupation, and the ongoing restoration process.
