Anel Sytdykova from West Kazakhstan conquered another height in her life by swimming 750 meters in Antarctica in freezing water of – 1.4 degrees Celsius in 18.58.95 minutes, Kazinform News Agency reports.
On November 10 she arrived in Antarctica.
The group led by the founder of the International Ice Swimming Association (IISA), Ram Barkai, consisted of 13 swimmers from South Africa, the US, France, the UK, Hungary, Malaysia Australia, and Kazakhstan and one doctor. The world’s most skilled ice swimmers such as Kate Steel and Lynton Mortensen were in the group.
Anel said ice swimming in the – 1.4 degrees Celsius water with a wind speed of 35 km/h among penguins and icebergs is quite exciting.
Anel is the first Kazakh Iron Woman. Five years ago, Anel was the first Kazakh to swim through the English Channel (38 km) without a wetsuit.
In 2022 Anel Sytdykova became the first Kazakh to swim across the Catalina Channel, off the coast of California.
Currently, Anel and her family live in London.
