In the not too distant past the the then KPK government had declared the houses where Dilip Kumar and Raj Kapoor were born in Peshawar city as national heritage and decided that they will be turned into
national museums.
That decision needs to be translated hitherto into a reality. The house of Dilip Kumar is in a very dilapidated condition likely to fall down any moment while that of Raj Kapoor is also decaying by the day.
The Fine Arts circles of Peshawar have expressed their concern over the delay in the matter and they have urged immediate implementation of that decision .
There is no gainsaying the fact that KPK has produced many outstanding film personalities in various fields of filmdom. In the 1920s Gul Hamid who belonged to Pir Piai Nowshera had taken the Bollywood by storm. He had worked in many silent movies of that time which did exceptionally well at the box office. The likes of ZA Bokhari belonging to Peshawar city were not seen by the Broadcasting world of the sub continent. Notable film actors like Nasir Khan and Jaint also belonged to Peshawar city.
Very few people know that prominent Bollywood film directors and script writers like Zia Sarhadi and Sagar Sarhadi were born in Peshawar and Baffa Haxara respectively .
The film Humlog directed and produced by Zia Sarhadi did golden jubilee at the box office in 1950s. Poet Qateel Shifai who wrote many hit songs for Lollywood movies was born in Haripur Hazara
To cut a long story short KPK has been producing since 1913 brilliant stars in every field of the celluloid.
What a pity that despite the fact that umpteen TV channels exist in the electronic media not a single one ever thought of making special documentary films on them for apprising the young generation of their rich cultural heritage.
