WNAM REPORT: China aims to build 10,000 factories powered by 5G and no less than 20 pilot cities for the integrated application of 5G + industrial internet by 2027, according to a plan released by the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) on Monday.
The plan aims to accelerate the integration of information and communication technology driven by data and focused on establishing a new industrial network system represented by 5G.
The plan sets a target that by 2027, 5G + Industrial Internet will be widely integrated into key sectors of the real economy, covering five aspects: network infrastructure, technological products, integrated applications, industrial ecosystems, and public services.
Tang Libo from the China Academy of Information and Communications Technology told China Media Group that to meet future industrial demands, technologies such as 5G-A, AI, new industrial control systems, and industrial computing power will be holistically considered to promote the development of a new industrial network system.
“This will enhance the coordination between the industrial internet and key industrial chains, collectively fostering a high-quality development ecosystem for the industrial internet, Tang said.
Currently, China has over 17,000 5G+ industrial internet projects, covering all 41 major industrial sectors. The country has built more than 4,000 5G factories, with 700 included in MIIT’s list of high-level 5G factories, demonstrating significant applications in industries such as manufacturing, mining, power and ports.
