WNAM REPORT: In China, the construction of the Tianshan Shengli tunnel has been successfully completed, which has become the longest high-speed tunnel in the world with a length of 22 kilometers, the Xinhua agency reports.
The project was implemented in the northwestern part of the country, in the Xinjiang region, known for its difficult climatic conditions.
The tunnel took more than seven years to build, using cutting-edge technology to overcome challenges such as high seismic activity and significant temperature fluctuations in the region.
The tunnel is part of a high-speed railway line between the cities of Urumqi and Korla, which will significantly improve transport accessibility in the region. According to the South China Morning Post, special attention was paid to environmental aspects during construction, using special drilling methods and energy-saving technologies.
The launch of passenger traffic on the new line is planned for next year. This project not only strengthens China’s position as a world leader in implementing large-scale infrastructure projects, but also creates new opportunities for the economic development of the country’s western regions.
