Jakarta ( WNAM MONITORING): The Ministry of Tourism reported that foreign tourist arrivals increased by 20 percent from January to November 2024 compared to the same period in 2023.
The number of arrivals during this period reached 12.66 million, marking a 20.17 percent increase from the same timeframe in 2023. This growth is the highest recorded in the last five years.
“This is the result of joint efforts by the Ministry of Tourism and all stakeholders to improve the performance of the tourism sector,” said Ni Made Ayu Marthini, the ministry’s acting deputy of marketing, in a statement on Saturday.
She noted that the number of foreign tourist arrivals in November 2024 stood at 1.09 million.
The number of arrivals in December 2024 would be officially released by Statistics Indonesia in February, she added.
“With the Christmas and New Year holidays, we hope the tourism performance will be even more positive and have a significant impact on achieving the foreign tourist arrival target for 2024,” she remarked.
The number of domestic tourist trips from January to November 2024 reached 920 million, a 22.81 percent increase from the same period in 2023.
Marthini affirmed that the ministry had optimized its marketing programs. One initiative included participation in the World Travel Market London in November 2024, the world’s second-largest tourism exhibition.
The ministry has conducted tourism marketing and branding programs in Canada, Australia, China, and several Southeast Asian countries like Malaysia and Singapore. Additionally, efforts to boost cross-border tourism in Batam and Bintan have been implemented.
