WNAM REPORT: President Ersin Tatar and Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan held a joint press conference after a tête-à-tête meeting and delegation-level talks.
In his speech, President Ersin Tatar emphasized: “The Turkish Cypriot people are engaged in a great struggle for the establishment of their own inherent rights, as well as for the affirmation of their sovereign equality and equal international status.
Tatar expressed his gratitude for Türkiye’s unwavering support.
The President further noted the main reason for the continuous failure over the 56 years of negotiation processes has been the flawed characterisation of the Cyprus problem, the imposition of an undesirable formula, and the insistence on this despite knowing its shortcoming. Although this reality has been acknowledged even by previous Secretaries-General, it remains futile to insist on this exhausted model, which condemns the Turkish Cypriot people to both isolation and the status quo.”
For his part, Turkish Foreign Minister Fidan stated that the isolation imposed on the Turkish Cypriots has almost become a silent crime against humanity.
Minister Fidan highlighted the importance of the international community establishing the two-state status of Cyprus on a legal basis.
Fidan also expressed his desire for Türkiye, Greece, the TRNC, and the Greek Cypriot administration would collaborate to build a better future in the region.
Fidan concluded by stressing that apart from a two-state solution, the only other viable option is the recognition of the Turkish presence, state status, and independence on the island.
